How lovely it was to wake-up in lovely comfy beds on our first morning in Denmark, to a view of snow covered roof tops in January. Sp34 was our boutique hotel for this visit to Copenhagen, as always we received a wonderful Danish welcome. The hotel with simple interiors, a cool library to sit with a coffee and chat over the day’s ‘discoveries’, it is also in a great location for the Tivoli Gardens and Stroget shopping. Cocks and Cows is a great diner, one of the three restaurants located within the hotel, has the best salted fries and cocktails and the courgette vegan burger was so tasty, oh my Molly would be proud.
With spring fast approaching, this was a well timed buying and inspiration trip, in particular to North Modern, an exhibition showcasing Danish designers. It was great to chat and meet the designers and find new brands, could have chosen so many. One we did select for Vanil was Wouddesign, coming soon as part of our new s/s collections, so exciting.
Our shopping highlight was a visit to Hay House located over two floors of a grand house, which feels more like a friends chic apartment, not a conventional shop. The loft like Interior is anchored by a beautiful staircase imported by european designers. I love the Hay Brand with its gorgeous furniture and interesting accessories, colours and textiles are simple, there’s something for everyone. In late afternoon it was so lovely to walk and discover another coffee shop, this time we received a warm welcome by the staff at Mums who served a delicious freshly prepared vegan stew.
On the Friday, which was our last day, we walked in search of Stilleben and more coffee. I just love the coffee culture in Denmark; the coffee shops are so warming with candles lit to welcome you in and there’s always a blanket to keep cosy. Lanterns line the entrances of shops and restaurants night or day. Stilleben is a contemporary shop that’s a ‘must visit’. Located in a Traditional style house down a cobbled street full of inspiration, selling handmade textile and ceramic productions. It was so great to see Moebe, the new Danish brand brought to life on the walls of this gorgeous shop.
